gravely tractor wont fire?
hello just got an old gravely Walk Behind the fire that usually tried sanding the points down, but the usual fire and there does not seem broken any idia son what would it prevent him from fireing
If no spark, the spark may be carbon fowled or damaged. Replace with new ones. Still no spark? You'll need a multimeter to test circuits. Check the first condenser. To do this, set your camera to measure resistance / continuity. Disconnect the wire from the capacitor starting points. Check the resistance of the cable to ground. After an initial peak of your meter reading should be 10 meg-ohm or more. If the condenser is bad (shorted), it will have a very low resistance and must be replaced. Remove the wire (leading from points to the coil) from points. Then check the resistance / continuity between points of ignition and earth. Rotate the crankshaft until the points are open (Separated) and test between the two sides of points and the earth. You must have 10 meg-ohm or more between one side and points to the ground, and should measure zero, or very little resistance from the other side of issues and the earth. If both sides measure very high resistance, delete points and clean the back of the mounting points with a wire brush or sandpaper to ensure good contact with the engine block. Do the same for the engine block where points secure with the clip (s). Replace the points and set the point gap to the manufacturer spec. (Usually 0.20 "or so) now rotate the crankshaft until the points are closed (no difference). Measure resistance on both sides points to the ground. It should be zero or very little resistance on both sides of the points now. (Less than 500 ohms) Check the cable that connects the dots in the coil for continuity. Measure from the end point (still disconnected) terminal of the coil. Resistance should be zero ohms. If the resistance is 300 ohms or more, the wire is faulty. Next, measure the distance between the end point of the thread (still disconnected) to ground. Resistance should measure 20,000 ohms or more. If resistance measures less, remove fasteners coil (one at a time to avoid disruption of the gap setting between the flywheel magnet and coil) and clean it with sandpaper or a wire brush to remove corrosion and expose the bare metal on the location and also where it touches the coil. Install the clip, and repeat the process for fixing the second coil. Again, the measure to ensure that resistance is 20,000 ohms or more. If the resistance measures below, the coil is defective and must be replaced. If all the steps correctly after any sanding / cleaning is done, son on the link and test points to trigger again.

Samuel Gravely was born on June 4, 1922 in Richmond, Virginia. Gravely spent two years at Virginia Union University, where he was a member of Alpha Phi Alpha, the first intercollegiate Greekletter fraternity established for African Americans. Following his time in college, he enlisted in the Naval Reserves on September 15, 1942 and was trained as a Fireman Apprentice. In 1943, he participated in the Navy V12 program, which was designed to select and train Naval officers. As part of this training, he attended the University of California in Los Angeles, PreMidshipman School in New Jersey, and Midshipmen School at Columbia University. On December 14, 1944, Gravely successfully completed midshipman training, thereby becoming the first African American commissioned as an officer from the Naval Reserve Officer Training Corps.
