How does your engine generates Propulsion

As you're driving, have you ever wondered how your car produces energy propulsion needed to move your car on the road? Sometimes the result of a multistep process that generates horses. This power represents the energy that pushes your vehicle every time you press the accelerator.

Inside your engine (in block), there are a number of cylinders. Each cylinder has a combustion chamber which houses a piston. As you drive, a 4-stroke cycle occurs in the room that converts fuel and air into energy. In this article I will describe this cycle in detail. We'll go through the process step by step, so that you can gain an appreciation for the work performed during engine operation.

Piston At The Top

The first stroke cycle begins with the piston positioned at the top of the combustion chamber. It begins to descend toward the bottom of the chamber. Each cylinder has an intake valve and an exhaust valve. As the piston drops, the old farmhouse while the latter opens.

When the intake valve opens, air and fuel to enter the room. When the piston reaches the bottom of its travel, the valve closes, trapping the air-fuel mixture inside. This completes the first stroke.

The piston rises

The second shot requires the upstroke in the combustion chamber. Because both valves are closed, the air-fuel mixture is compressed. When the piston reaches the top the bottle again, the mixture was compressed to about one tenth of its original volume. The resulting pressure cause a marked increase temperature. This compression level is crucial for the next race of the cycle.

Plug spark ignites the mixture

With the plunger at the top of the combustion chamber and the air-fuel mixture compressed to a tenth of its original volume, a spark is needed. A single spark plug is positioned at the top of each cylinder and fires at the beginning of this third shot. The spark ignites the compressed mixture, creating a mini explosion in the combustion chamber.

The ignition of the fuel-air mixture creates steam to rapidly expand the fuel burning. The expansion has enough force to push the piston down the cylinder. When the piston descends, it turns a component called the crankshaft. The crankshaft rotates and produces the energy necessary to move your car.

The fire in the engine cylinders in your vehicle at different times, each shot turns the crankshaft part of a full turn. When the crankshaft has completed two rounds, all cylinders will be fired once.

Out Of The House

When the piston reaches the bottom of the cylinder, the exhaust valve opens. It is the pressure in the combustion chamber, the pressure starts to escape through the open valve as vapors pass from the chamber in the exhaust system. Meanwhile, the piston begins to rise up again, pushing the gas outward through the valve. This happens with a huge amount of force, which is why your car would fuss if it was not a silencer. With the expulsion unburned gases from the cylinder, the exhaust valve closes and the 4-stroke cycle begins again.

The cycle described above occurs thousands of times every minute. That is why it is important that your car engine and its components function effectively. A problem with the injectors Fuel can impoverish the air-fuel mixture and cause misfires. A faulty oxygen sensor can affect the amount of air into the combustion chamber. A bent intake or exhaust valve can cause leakage of compression. A lack of oil will lead to overheating.
